Position before Submission

SFX promotes character and virtue along with hard martial arts training. Patients is a virtue, and this is where the phrase "position before submission" comes into play. So often a competitor will try to apply a choke, lock a joint, or land that knock out blow before he is in the proper position. This is unfortunate, because just a little bit of patients would have allowed for a submission. If you are a martial artists, you know exactly what I am talking about...trying to sink in the rear choke without having both leg hooks in, trying to bar an arm before securing it first, throwing that left hook without setting it up with a combination, even bridging out of the mount before you take away their post. Take the time to set your position before attempting the submission. Practice patients. Easier said than done, but it will be worth your while.
